How Far Is the Moon From Earth?

Do you know how far apart the moon and Earth are? The simple answer is approximately 238,000 miles. But what does that look like?

Imagine holding a basketball (Earth), and a tennis ball (moon). How far apart should the two balls be to represent the Earth and moon?

What would you have said?

at the top, it says 238,00 miles. did you mean 238,000 or 23,800?

  5. i would have placed the moon on the ground and walked a little and then put the moon down, but that would have been about half of the actual distance in this video, so i wish the pictures you see of the earth and moon were accurate in separation distance so people aren’t misled.
