If you’ve never heard of the TV show Supah Ninjas, we’re here to help. We recently spoke with the stars of the show, Ryan Potter and Carlos Knight.

The show revolves around Mike Fukanaga and his friends, Owen and Amanda. After the death of his grandfather, Mike is given a mysterious letter which leads him to discover that he comes from a long line of ninjas. With Owen, and later Amanda, they are ushered into the world of crime-fighting, forming the team “Supah Ninjas.” They are trained with a hologram of Mike’s grandfather, whom Owen refers to as “Hologramps” in Empire City.

Here’s a sneak peek at the new season, starting Saturday, Feb. 9 on Nickelodeon:

The Supah Ninjas themselves took some time out to talk to Heads Up. Here’s what they had to say:

Can you explain the show a bit for those who haven’t seen it yet?
R.P.: Supah Ninjas is an action-packed comedy. In season one, my character, Mike Fukunaga, my character, discovers that he comes from a long line of ninjas. His best friend, Owen, and his secret crush, Amanda, join him in trying to save Empire City from villains while trying to keep their crime fighting life a secret.
C.K.: Supah Ninjas is about a group of high school teenagers who lead normal lives during the day and use their talents as ninjas to fight crime during at night. I play a funny character named Owen Reynolds who uses his confidence and wise cracking personality to provide both style and fearlessness to the team.

What can we expect this season on Supah Ninjas?

R.P.: There is a lot of humor, action and even a little bit of romance in the upcoming season of Supah Ninjas.  This season also features fantastic new villains and some surprise guest stars.  I can’t wait for fans to see it!
C.K.: The second season of Supah Ninjas is packed with a lot fun adventures. We’ve dialed up the humor and the action our fans love.  We also have fantastic guest stars stepping in as our weekly villains.

Ryan, you’re into martial arts, right? What’s it like getting to work on a show based on martial arts?

R.P.: Working on this series is a dream come true. When casting the role, the producers were looking for someone with martial arts experience.  I’ve been training in White Tiger Kung Fu since I was 8-years-old, so being able to apply those martial arts skills into this role really appealed to me.  My training also helps when it’s time to learn fight choreography or doing stunts.  It’s easier to remember the moves and execute them realistically.

Carlos, you’re into writing original music. What sort of stuff do you write?

C.K.: I’m a rapper! I’ve decided to take a step into the genre and see if I can bring something new to it. I’m really looking forward to releasing a few tracks in the next year.  My style is still evolving but I would describe it as a cross between The Roots, Andre 3000, Cee-Lo Green and Rage Against the Machine.  My music is emotionally open and comically delivered.  I have some combinations of styles in my music that have never been done before and I can’t wait to see if they will be accepted or rejected. Either way, I’m happy that music is another way for me to express myself.
Aside from music and martial arts, what do you two like do in your free time?
R.P.: I collect vinyl records.  I really love art. I do mixed media art, paint and draw. I’m learning to play the drums. I train in White Tiger Kung Fu and martial arts tricking.  I love hanging out with my friends, going to movies, checking out cool stuff in LA. When I was in elementary school, I was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout so I like camping and putting my scout skills to good use when I have the time.
C.K.: My free time is filled with finding new ways to create and have fun. I play basketball to challenge my mind and body. I write scripts to help me with organizing a set of ideas and using my brain as a file cabinet rather than a toy box. I also enjoy finding things I don’t know how to do, like playing the piano or guitar, and forcing myself to learn how to do them. I always learn something new about myself when I tackle challenges head on.
