Where There’s A Will There’s A Way

This Goffin’s cockatoo surprised a group of scientists in Austria when it fashioned a tool from slivers of wood. The team believe the bird’s accomplishment is the first recorded instance of tool-making among parrots.

The researchers noticed the bird’s ability when it was playing with a pebble. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach the pebble, the cockatoo used a stick to fish for the object. The scientists carried out a series of tests that involved placing nuts outside the cockatoo’s enclosure, and recorded the results. Take a look at the video below:
