Dolphin Saves Whales

dolphin.jpgA bottlenose dolphin named Moko led two distressed whales to safety on Wednesday.

The two pygmy sperm whales were found stranded on Mahia Beach in New Zealand. Rescuers worked to free the whales and get them back to sea, but the whales couldn’t navigate their way past a sandbar. Just when it appeared the whales wouldn’t survive, Moko came to help.

Moko is well known on Mahia Beach. The dolphin spends most of its time swimming playfully among humans. When the whales were disoriented, Moko led them through the sand bar and back to the open ocean, saving the whales’ lives.
