The one thing every great James Bond movie has? Cool cars. The upcoming Spectre, the 24th installment in the epic franchise, is no exception. In fact, Spectre may have the coolest Bond car yet: the Aston Martin DB10.
Last week, I got the chance to chat with Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman about the car. Scroll down to read what he had to say fast cars, cool gadgets and futuristic automotive technologies.
What can you tell us about the new Bond car?
I can tell you that, first and foremost, it has been built for Bond. We designed and built just ten examples of the DB10, and eight were used in the filming of Spectre. My team worked closely with the movie’s producers to shape the perfect Bond car.
What makes it a “Bond car?”
First and foremost, what makes it a Bond car is that it is an Aston Martin! Stretching right back to the DB5 in Goldfinger we have provided cars for James Bond and, after the success of that car’s appearance in the last film – Skyfall, we were delighted when EON Productions made the decision to put Bond back behind the wheel of one of our sports cars for Spectre.
The DB10 in Spectre takes the idea of a ‘Bond car’ to a whole new level, since it has been designed, tailored in fact, just for James Bond. Everything about this car has been created with Bond in mind, so you could possibly say it is the ultimate Bond car!

Do you get to come up with all of the cool gadgets and devices?
We work very closely with the film’s production team to explore ‘the art of the possible’ when it comes to gadgets and devices, and our design team had a lot of fun suggesting ideas. Ultimately though once we have built the cars we hand them over to the special effects team to have the ‘secret agent’ stuff added. It’s all a lot of hard work; creativity; an affinity with the Bond franchise and its fantastic history. Above all, though, I think it is Aston Martin’s understanding of what it takes to build beautiful, powerful and desirable sports cars.
What are some Bond-like technologies that we could see in real-life cars one day?
Well, machine guns and flame throwers are probably out of the question! But I could well imagine a time when a luxury sports car such as an Aston Martin might be fully capable of driving itself, although I’m not sure it’s something we would rush to offer as, for our customers, part of the thrill of owning one of our cars comes from the joy of taking it for a drive.
