Calling all stargazers! The best meteor shower of the year starts tonight. The annual Perseids shower peaks at 3 a.m. Eastern Thursday morning.
Why so late? Because the moon is almost new and there won’t be any moonlight to interfere with the show. If the weather is good, you can expect one shooting star a minute.
How do you watch? The best way to watch is to lie down and look up. No telescopes are needed.
The Perseids are named after the Perseus constellation, from which the meteors appear to radiate. The shower is actually pieces of the Swift-Tuttle comet hitting Earth’s atmosphere at more than 133,000 mph.
