When I was in high school, The Giver was mandatory reading, and I’m guessing that many of you will soon have to read it, too. But, thankfully, The Giver is one of those rare school books that’s not all about education … it’s also highly entertaining.
The Giver is a fantastic sci-fi story with terrific imagery, and thought-provoking ideas. So, it makes perfect sense that the bestselling book would be adapted into a movie.
And after more than 20 years, it has. Here’s the gist:
In a perfect world where there is no conflict, racism or sickness, every member of society has a specific role, and 16-year-old Jonas is selected to be the Receiver of Memory. As Jonas uncovers the truth behind his world’s past, he discovers that many years earlier, his forefathers gave up humanity in order to have a stable society.
