Rare Collectabile Card Sells For $27,302

I sure wish that I could back in time and warn the 12-year-old-version of myself not to trade all of Magic: The Gathering cards to my neighbor for a bunch of pogs. Why?

Because earlier this month a Magic: The Gathering card, the super-rare Alpha Black Lotus, sold for $27,302 on eBay. Experts say that only 1,100 of these cards were printed during a limited first run in 1993.  This specific Black Lotus card received a 9.5 out of 10 from the Beckett Grading Service, and was called “the holy grail of non-sports cards in the finest condition ever graded.”

Did I have that specific card in my little collection? Who knows. The bottom line is, collecting isn’t all about you collection’s worth. The important thing is the collecting itself, and that it’s fun for you. The thrill of finding new stuff.

But still, it is always interesting to think that your own prized collection could actually be worth something someday. So, what do you guys have in your collection that may be worth something someday?

  1. I found a mint Al Kaline card for a $1 that I later found out was worth $40! As far as I know, I don’t own anything worth thousands though xD lol
