Spacecraft Burns

Three teenagers helped NASA track Japan’s unmanned Hayabusa spacecraft this month. While flying aboard a DC-8, the Massachusetts students watched the Hayabusa burn up during reentry over the Australian outback while traveling 27,000 miles per hour.
