Plastic Bottle Boat

plastikiA boat made from thousands of recycled plastic bottles is set to make an 11,000-mile voyage. David de Rothschild is building this unusual aquatic vehicle in San Francisco. Everything is made of plastic bottles except for the masts, which are metal. De Rothschild calls plastic bottles a “symbol of global waste,” and he wants his journey to bring awareness to recycling.

De Rothschild will depart San Francisco in April. The 12,000 to 16,000 bottles he’s using will carry him all the way to Australia.

  1. He’s actually right, we do need to recycle to live if we keep wasting things the earth will be covered with trash, and we will have to recycle, but why not take a head start now!

  2. I think what de Rothschild is doing is absolutely brilliant. What a fantastic way to bring awareness to the waste that people are producing. The entire planet and is being affected by the plastic people are throwing out. Imagine the waste in the ocean is twice the size of Texas. We are selling plastic bags to India so that we don’t have to deal with the waste and the cows are eating them and dying and the workers are ovwerwhelmed with the amount of waste and cannot deal with it’s volume. That is mind boggling. I wish him all the best of luck in his journey. Very Inspiring!
