2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee Ends In a Tie

Usually spelling bees aren’t known for excitement. Don’t get me wrong, I love spelling and grammar as much as the next guy, but spelling bees usually lack the emotion and fun of, say, the NBA or NHL playoffs.

Even so, this video doesn’t lack in drama. It shows the final two contestants in the 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee, as they compete for the crown. Take a look at how it all unfolds.

That’s right, a tie. In the end, Sriram Hathwar of Painted Post, N.Y., and Ansun Sujoe of Fort Worth, Texas each won the 2014 title.

It was the first tie since 1962.
