Today is Veterans Day, a time for honoring those who have served the United States during a time of war.
Did you know: The first Veteran’s Day, then known as Armistice Day, was celebrated in 1919 when President Woodrow Wilson set aside the date as a holiday. Nov. 11 was selected as the date, because fighting in World War I ceased at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).
Said Wilson in 1918: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations …”

Our troop percipitated in our hometown’s Veteran’s Day celebration.
Wow! Read about the Vermont State “Scout Salute to Veterans Parade” held annually in Vermont. Scouts from all around the State go to one town (it moves every year) to show their appreciation and honor our Veterans. This year’s parade was held Saturday 11/7 in Barre Vermont – the home of one of this countries first Boy Scout troops. Thank You Veteran’s – we salute you!
My grandpa on my dad’s side served in the US Navy alongside the Marines in the Vietnam War. My great-grandpa, also on my dad’s side, served in the US Army in WWII in Italy. Yay for the USA!!
