There’s a new president at the White House today, as Donald J. Trump begins his term. We’ve got a few facts about the Executive Residence that may surprise you.

The White House is estimated to to be worth $287 Million.

The White House receives approximately 6,000 visitors a day.

At the end of each month, the president receives a bill for his and his family’s personal food and expenses including dry cleaning, toothpaste, and toiletries, which is then deducted from his salary.

The White House features a tennis court, garden,  jogging track, swimming pool, movie theater, billiard room, bowling lanes and a basketball court.

With five full-time chefs, the White House kitchen is able to serve dinner to as many as 140 guests and hors d’oeuvres to more than 1,000.

The White House wasn’t called “the White House” until 1901. President Theodore Roosevelt gave the iconic building its name. That’s over 100 years after it was completed and its first residents, John and Abigail Adams, moved in. Prior to that, the president’s home was known as the “Executive Mansion,” the “President’s House” and the “President’s Palace.”

President Rutherford B. Hayes was the first president to use a phone in The White House. His phone number was simply 1. It was installed in 1879, and at first it was hardly used because there weren’t many other phones in Washington to call.

In November of 1800, John Adams became the first president to live in the White House (then called the President’s House).
