The 7 Best Marvel Post-Credits Scenes

With epic action, cool superheroes and plenty of humor, Marvel movies are just fine as is. Lucky for fans, the minds behind the movies are always looking to provide a little something extra. Case in point, each of the Marvel movies since Iron Man released in 2008 has featured at least one post-credits scene.

These are scenes are not necessarily related to the plot of the movie they’re connected to, but they do tie-in to the lager Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in some way. Here are the seven best post-credits scenes.

No. 1 — Iron Man

This is the one that started it all. The Marvel Cinematic Universe was born with 2008’s Iron Man, introducing us to Tony Stark and his superhero alter-ego Iron Man. While the superhero movie was hailed as one of the best ever, Marvel had a little something extra up its sleeve. After the credits rolled, fans were also introduced to a brand-new character named Nick Fury. His mission: Recruiting a group of heroes to form a superhero team called The Avengers. Before this moment, fans had no idea the superhero team would be uniting on the big screen.

No. 2 — The Avengers

If the Iron Man post-credits scene was the one that launched the franchise, this is the one that gave it a purpose. After the credits rolled, and the Avengers had beaten the bad guys, fans got their first look at the MCU’s big bad: Thanos. The scene works even better now that we know who Thanos is and why he’s heading to Earth (he’s searching for the rest of Infinity Gauntlet). We don’t know when exactly he will pop up next, but there’s a good chance it’ll be during 2018’s The Avengers: Infinity War.

No. 3 — Guardians of the Galaxy

Not all of Marvel’s post-credit scenes are serious. Guardians of the Galaxy is especially known for its wacky comedy, and it’s post-credits scenes are no exception. This clip shows Baby Groot dancing while Drax isn’t looking. It’s a good example of what makes Guardians of the Galaxy so unique.

No. 4 — Avengers: Age of Ultron

Here’s another Thanos scene. The first time he appeared on screen, we learned that he exists. But this post-credits scene shows he is heading to Earth. That means no more easy wins for the Avengers. What with the glove? That’s the Infinity Gauntlet, a mystical glove that holds all the Infinity Stones. Armed with that, Thanos is even more powerful. It looks like Thanos is heading to Earth to fight the Avengers himself, offering their toughest challenge yet — by far.

No. 5 — The Avengers

Here’s another funny one. Following a particularly epic battle in The Avengers, the superhero squad takes a much needed breather in this post-credits scene. Amid the destruction of New York City, the exhausted gang recovers from saving the planet by eating at a Shawarma restaurant. It’s a funny scene for two reasons. No. 1 — No one speaks, showing just how tired they all are. No. 2 — The restaurant is a total mess, showing just how truly epic and destructive their battle was.

No. 6 — Captain America: The First Avenger

After being introduced to Captain America during the 1940s, this post-credits scene showed Cap in modern day. But it’s not just about him exercising. We get another look Nick Fury (first seen in the Iron Man scene) who recruits Captain America to head up the Avengers. Fans also got their first peek at the trailer for The Avengers movie, which hit theaters about a year later.

No. 7 — Iron Man 2

By the time Iron Man 2 rolled around, we’d already gotten to know Tony Stark, Black Widow and Hulk. One character fans didn’t expect was Thor. But this post-credits scene changed that, showing a mysterious agent (who we now know as Agent Coulsen) driving through the desert in search of a mysterious object. What was the object? Thor’s mystical hammer Mjolnir.

  1. What? No Howard The Duck and The Collector scene? Nothing from Civil War or Doctor Strange?
